Break the Shell

This past weekend while driving around in my new car (treat yo self), India Arie’s  “Break The Shell” came on the radio. There’s something about her music that is just healing. This song,in particular ,spoke to me at that moment. The song talks about getting out of the bubble that you put yourself in when you’re in pain. It’s amazing how music can speak to you at the time that you need it to. So, here’s what I learned in that moment.

Happiness is subjective. We may not like the place we’re at  but choosing to be happy is your choice. Maybe you’re looking for a new job and haven’t received a single call back or you just broke up with someone who you thought was going to be yours forever. Hey, maybe nothing at all is going right. What do we do in this situations? How do we get up and keep going? Choice. It’s that simple. In her song, she said, “We have a choice to live or truly be alive.”  Which are you doing? Sometimes we have to ask ourselves can we change our attitude. As I’m writing this I’m talking to myself as well. It’s not easy to do but at the end of the day, your own happiness is going to require you showing up daily and encouraging yourself.

You must feel. If I’m honest, feelings make me sick. lol. Mainly because they’re hard to control. You see, I didn’t say I couldn’t control them because we can control our feelings at most times.  When life hurts is when controlling feelings becomes tricky. “Life’s gonna hurt but its meant to be felt.”  Being able to feel and get through whatever you’re experiencing requires maturity. Have you realized that you must experience pain to grow? If not, are you avoiding the pain, which is prolonging your healing? Be present. Be in the moment. Feel, even when it doesn

Get unstuck. Sometimes we’re so engulfed with our feelings that we remain there. It becomes comfortable. If you aren’t real with anyone else, you must be real with yourself. What’s keeping you stuck? How can you become unstuck? You can’t walk away from everything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Being uncomfortable builds character and allows you to learn more about yourself. If I’ve learned one thing in this world, it’s nothing good comes out of me being comfortable. I’ve always had to put myself in uncomfortable situations to get exactly what I need. I hate it lol but it’s never failed me. Once God sees your faith, it’ll be honored. I’m a living witness to that.

You’re going through a season where you’re about to experience breakthrough after breakthrough. Because what you’ve been through, didn’t break you!

Let me know in the comments how you plan to break your shell. Have a great rest of the week folks!
