Fall remedy for itchy scalp

Fall Remedy for itchy scalp

I love FALL! It’s one of the best times of the year for me. It’s also the perfect weather for my natural hair. My natural hairstyles thrive in the Fall except, for one thing, dryness. Although my hair styles come out great it’s like once the calendar hits Fall, here comes the dry scalp among other issues. In order for our natural hair to thrive (grow/ remain healthy) our scalp has to be clean with no issues. I’ve found a remedy that works for me and I’m going to let you in on it if you experience dry scalp, dandruff, or just non-moisturized hair in general.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Listen I hate the smell of this stuff. lol That’s just real. BUT it works wonders for dry scalp. I did my research before applying it to my scalp. ACV has so many benefits for dry scalp. If you are experiencing dandruff ACV works great anti-bacterial agent, so it will kill any bacteria or fungus that causes dandruff. Also, it will prevent dandruff from reoccurring. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory, which is necessary when your scalp is itching ACV will soothe your irritated scalp. Check what products you’re using as well as your diet to see if changes can be made. If dandruff persists than that means more serious issues are currently and you may need to see a dermatologist.

Honey

Honey has so many vitamins that will keep the hair strong and will add moisture back to your hair where it lacks. It also works well with ACV at combatting the dandruff and dry scalp. It also works to strengthen the hair follicles while adding shine back into the hair shaft. If your natural hair is broken or hair growth hasn’t been stimulated in a while, honey will re-stimulate dormant hair follicles working to grow the hair that was loss.

Essential Oils

I love most essential oils for various reasons, but Lavender and Peppermint Oil work best for dry scalp. Lavender essential oil can be used to treat dandruff or dry scalp effectively because of it’s anti-fungal properties.  Peppermint Essential Oil gives a cool tingling sensation and works to heal and add moisture back.

That’s it. So just add all of these together:

(Use this mixture before shampooing with a plastic cap. Let it sit on your scalp for 30 minutes to an hour).

Unfiltered AVC 1/4

Honey 10tbs

Lavender Oil 5-10 drops

Pepper Oil 5-10 drops

Water 1/4

Olive Oil (optional)

This combination of products works great for me when the weather changes!
