5 Benefits of using Bentonite Clay

There are many benefits to using Bentonite Clay but I use specially as a “shampoo.” Shampoo is typically used to cleanse the hair of dirt and debris. But sometimes shampooing the hair can leave it dry and dull. This is when researching different alternatives becomes important. I happened to find Bentonite Clay and its many benefits. Maybe you’ve straighten your hair and need your curls to bounce back. Or if you just need a simple detox because you’re tired of the same ole same ole. Then you should give this clay at least a try. Here are 5 benefits for using Bentonite Clay. But first here’s some background because we always want to know what’s going into our hair/body..

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite Clay

This specific clay is made of ash from volancoes (sounds crazy right but stay tuned). This clay goes far back in history including being used in both Central Africa and Australia. Bentonite Clay in these places were used for protecting the body from disease. This type of clay is used so much because how readily available it is and that it requires no processing to be done. It has became popular for detoxing the body and its cost-effectiveness.

Shampoo

Bentonite Clay can be used to cleanse the hair without stripping it of moisture that other shampoos can do. This clay moistures and conditions dry—-dull hair. If you are suffering from itchy scalp, dandruff, or eczema then Bentonite clay can help bring your scalp back to health.

 My old Fancy DIY recipe:

  • 1/4 cups of Bentonite clay
  • 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice
  • 1/2 cup of water (optional if aloe juice not used)
  • 2-3 drops of essential lavender oil
  • 2-3 drops of essential rosemary oil
  • 1 tsp Vitamin E oil

New Recipe (Simple DIY):

  • 1/4 cup of Bentonite Clay
  • 1/6 tsp of Apply Cider Vinegar (add more as needed depending on the consistency of clay)

Directions:

Add the Clay while mixing in the aloe vera juice, water, or ACV. Add more or less water depending on how thick you want the consistency to be. Add essential oils and mix again (your choice). Mixing these ingredients will provide for the perfect cleanser that your hair needs during the colder months. Apply from roots to ends working your way down until all your hair is covered. Let sit on hair for 15-30 minutes do not let the clay get too hard on your hair.
