Flaxseed Gel

Gel can be your best friend especially when you are trying to lay your edges.  It’s fall and many naturalistas are looking for a gel to keep those fly-aways or frizz to a minimum. There are many gels on the market that can be used but sometimes those gels leave your hair hard or leave residue. This gel also does not leave a hard crunch when used, which is another great benefit.

 

Flaxseed gel is all natural.  It is clear and sticky in consistency as most gels are. Flaxseeds are a great source of fiber and are packed with omega 3 fatty acids. Other benefits include aiding with acid reflux and IBS as well as with diabetes, high blood pressure, and even lupus.

 

Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 large boiling pot
  • 1 strainer (see below)
  • Storage container
  • 1/4 cup of Whole Flaxseed
  • 2 cups of water
  • Vitamin E oil (optional)
  • Lavender essential oil (optional)
  • Rosemary essential oil (optional)

Directions:

Put your stove burner on medium heat. Grab large boiling pot adding 2 cups of water. Let water come to a little boil while adding flaxseeds. It is important to constantly stir the flaxseeds as they will start sticking to the bottom of the pot. Keep stir until consistency of gel is thick and a white film is shown. Let gel cool off a bit. Grab a storage container, use stainer or old stocking and add the gel to it. Push out the gel using tongs. Add any essentials oils as you want. (Adding essential oils make the gel last a little longer, but if you do not have any it’s ok. Just refrigerate! This mixture should last at least a week without the oils.)

Note:

If you do not have a stainer you can take an old stocking and cut at the bottom put on top of a container and pour. Use caution because Gel will be hot get some type of tool to squeeze all of the gel out of the stocking.
