What’s your hair type? Find out mine..

what's my hair type

So, I was on a natural hair panel at the Mississippi Natural hair expo at the end of last month, and it was so much fun! It was great. I loved interacting and answering all of the questions asked of me. But one of the questions asked was, “Do you think there is a such thing as hair typing?” Of course I was the first to grab the mic to answer because, well, I’m tired of talking about hair type. I’m even more tired of being asked what hair type I am.

I can’t anymore.

Seriously, I can’t. I don’t know what my hair type is and I don’t really care. The truth is my hair has many different textures, it’s not just one specific type. The front is more of a loose curl as well as the crown; whereas, the back and sides of my hair are mixed textures. I just don’t know. Hey, guess what! You don’t exactly know what hair type you truly are either. Oh, so you looked at one of those hair charts and you are definitely 4b? Oh, ok. (*Side-eye)

If you don’t know what hair chart I’m talking about, well here is one of them. Can you say your hair is in the majority of one of these categories? Probably not. Why? Because not one chart is the same, even better, not one strand on your head is the same type as the other, so give it a break.

Yeah,  some products may work differently on certain areas of your hair. But doesn’t that just prove my point? Basically that means some parts of your hair may better absorb the products than other strands. Your hair has different textures. For those of you who say, well my hair is mainly 4a, well great for you, I’m still sticking to I don’t care for 300 Alex.

So, the next time you want to ask me what hair type I am I will look at you like this….

Because, I don’t know and I don’t care. I just know I’m natural and I love my hair! I hope that you too love your hair and won’t worry about your hair type or anyone else’s just enjoy your journey.

Let me know in the comments how you feel about hair typing!
