Protective styling: Knotless addition (what you need to know)

Hey ya’ll! I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post and honestly, I don’t want to get into where I’ve been right now but I promise you the next blog post will be dedicated to that along with how 2020 has started. For now, I want you to get into these knotless braids I’ve been having since the beginning of the year.

I’m not new to wearing protective styles. I try to get something new about every 6 months or so because I legit get tired of my natural hair. I’ve had crochet faux locs, marley twists, box braids, and individual locs but my favorite protective style so far has to be the knotless braids. I’ve been wanting to try this protective style for a while because I’ve heard they were a game changer. I’ve found out that, that’s facts! Knotless braids will be my go to protective style. Here’s why…

Do not pull on your scalp/edges

Edges still there 😉

We’ve been in the “snatched edges era” but I need ya’ll to dial it back and get into taking care of the most sensitive part of your natural hair. Knotless braids are meant to be gentle on your hairline because they don’t have the “knot” that traditional box braids do. And they aren’t heavy! From what I see, literally no breakage. I’m telling you that I could wear a high bun the second I left from getting them in my hair. And ya’ll know you can’t do that with box braids. lol

Easy to maintain

This is at 2.5 months
2.5 months of new growth

When I say easy to maintain, I just mean that it’s easy to moisturize your scalp with knotless. I think this goes along with how gentle the style is. I literally can spray my leave-in and oil my scalp with ease.

Great for those with finer texture

My hair is thicker than a snicker but for those of you with fine hair. Knotless braids should be your next go to style because your natural hair is braided at scalp making it more secure for the added hair to say intact. No more having the braid slip out.

Cons/Non-cons

If you’re looking for cons well, sorry to disappoint but I really don’t have any. Some people state that knotless braids take longer than the traditional box braids but I found that to be false. Mine took about 3 hours, which I’ve heard is super quick, but I’ll say it varies on the stylist. May be longer if you’re brave enough to do them yourself. Also, I’ve heard that knotless are more expensive as well, which I’ve also found to be false. If this is the case, I’ll definitely pay more to keep my edges and be pain free.

Maintaining

Knotless should be kept between 2-4 weeks, but chile I’ve kept mine in longer. I’m at 2.5 months *kanye shrugs*. I’m just going to tell you to listen to your hair and most importantly your scalp health. Some use apple cider vinegar to combat dry hair or dandruff. Some actually wash their protective style like their normal natural hair. If you’re going to wash make sure you sit under a hooded dryer for faster drying results. I use a good spray leave in conditioner and seal it with an oil nightly. Do what works best for you just make sure you are taking care of your scalp.

As always, thank you for reading! I love ya’ll! Please leave me a comment and let me know if you’ve gotten knotless braids before!

Love,
